The planet of raw physical strength sits in the one sign where it is strongest. India spent sixty-five years calling him the He-Man.
Roughly how the country saw him, decade by decade — and, underneath, the one thing a chart built from a birth date alone can actually tell you.
A caution we would rather give you than bury: no birth time for Dharmendra was ever published. In the Rodden rating system astrologers use for source quality, that is a flat X — "no time known". It is also why you will not find a single dated dasha period on this page. Two boundaries sit inside his birth date itself: his Moon changes nakshatra at roughly 9:30 in the morning and changes sign at roughly 3:09 in the afternoon on 8 December 1935. Lessons 06 and 07 below explain exactly what each of those would change.
This page does not do gossip, and on a memorial page it especially does not. Three things about his public record, and what the computed chart actually has to say about the pattern.
A bare-chested fight scene in Phool Aur Patthar (1966) gave Hindi cinema its first mass-market action-hero physique, and the nickname stuck for the next sixty years across more than 300 films.
Mars is exalted in Capricorn — the graha of the body, strength and courage, in the one sign where it is at maximum. It is the only exalted planet in the chart, and there is no debilitated planet anywhere to drag against it.
He debuted in 1960 and was still shooting into his late eighties. His final film released in January 2026, after his death — a span almost nobody in any film industry manages.
Saturn sits in Aquarius, a sign it owns. Saturn is the graha of time, patience and staying power, and on home ground it is read as durability rather than delay. Paired with an exalted Mars, the chart's two strongest placements are both about lasting.
Critics have long rated Bandini (1963), Satyakam (1969) and Chupke Chupke (1975) among his finest work — drama and comedy, not action. He was also widely known for his fondness for Urdu poetry.
Venus in its own sign Libra is likeability at full strength. And Mercury and Jupiter are both combust in Scorpio — sitting so close to the Sun that classical texts treat them as absorbed into it. The traditional reading: the wit and the generosity register as part of the personality, not as separate credentials.
🔭 The chart bit: Mars exalted, Venus and Saturn on home ground, nothing debilitated. A chart with no free gifts and no dead weight either — which is roughly what turning up to a magazine contest and staying sixty-five years looks like.
🔭 The chart bit: Saturn in its own sign Aquarius. Saturn's whole department is the long game — the part of a life that is measured in decades rather than in seasons.
Each card pairs one placement with a real photograph of Dharmendra himself, from a moment that fits that placement's story — never a picture of the planet.
Elected to the Lok Sabha from Bikaner, Rajasthan, in 2004, he served that term through to 2009.
Saturn on home ground — the office, not the applause.India gave him the Padma Bhushan in 2012, and the Padma Vibhushan — its second-highest civilian honour — posthumously in January 2026.
Recognition that arrived slowly, then completely.Away from the He-Man image he was known for his attachment to Urdu verse, and shared his own lines publicly well into his eighties.
Venus in Libra: the soft register was always there. From Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere in 1960 to Ikkis in 2026 — a working span of sixty-five years.
Saturn's department, measured in decades. His janam kundli, computed by our own engine from his birth date and place — not copied from anywhere.
No lagna, no houses, no manglik verdict and no dated dasha periods anywhere on this page — all four of those need an exact birth minute that was never published for him. Everything above is sign-level, which the date alone settles. The one exception is marked on the chart itself: his Moon, which crosses from Aries into Taurus partway through 8 December 1935, so we show both boxes rather than pick one.
Zero background needed. Read this once and you can decode the birth chart above yourself — no astrologer required.
A kundli, or janam kundli, is a photograph of the sky taken from the exact spot and second someone was born. Where each planet was sitting, frozen.
Vedic astrology treats that snapshot as the raw material a person was handed — not their fate, their starting kit.
Nine of them, or navagraha. Think of them as nine departments, each running one part of a life.
| Planet | Runs | Where his is |
|---|---|---|
| ☉ Sun | ego, authority, the self | Scorpio |
| ☾ Moon | instinct, mind, mood | Aries or Taurus — see Lesson 06 |
| ♂ Mars | drive, strength, the body | Capricorn ↑ exalted |
| ☿ Mercury | speech, cleverness, strategy | Scorpio combust |
| ♃ Jupiter | growth, luck, judgement | Scorpio combust |
| ♀ Venus | charm, love, public affection | Libra own sign |
| ♄ Saturn | patience, grind, staying power | Aquarius own sign |
| ☊ Rahu | ambition, obsession, expansion | Sagittarius |
| ☋ Ketu | letting go, detachment | Gemini |
Every planet has signs where it is comfortable and signs where it struggles. Same planet, different room, different output.
This one is physical before it's astrological. When a planet sits very close to the Sun in the sky, you cannot see it — the glare eats it. Vedic astrology calls that state combust, or asta, and reads the planet as absorbed into the Sun's business rather than doing its own.
This is the part most people have never heard of, and normally it is the most useful thing in the system.
Planets don't all act at once. They take turns running a life, for years at a stretch, in a fixed order that the Moon's exact position at birth sets. Vedic astrology calls a planet's turn a dasha, and the full lifetime sequence is the Vimshottari dasha.
Here is the bit that is specific to him, and it is the reason this page looks different from most celebrity kundli pages you'll find.
Which planet's dasha you start on is set by the nakshatra the Moon occupied at birth — one of 27 lunar mansions, each about 13°20' wide. The dates of every dasha after that are set by exactly how far through that nakshatra the Moon had travelled.
The Moon covers roughly 13 degrees a day. So across a single unknown birth date, the Moon can sweep nearly a whole nakshatra — which means the dasha dates slide by years, sometimes by more than a decade.
The nakshatra is not the only thing that moves on his birth date. His rashi — the Moon sign, which in Indian usage is what people usually mean by "his zodiac sign" — moves too.
It is one of the most-searched questions about almost every Indian public figure, and for him the honest answer is that it cannot be settled.
"Manglik" depends on which house Mars occupies — a specific short list of positions tied to marriage. Houses need the birth minute, because the rising sign changes roughly every two hours.
There isn't one. No birth time for Dharmendra was ever published by any source, which astrologers record as a Rodden rating of X — "no time known". His date and place are solid: 8 December 1935, in Punjab. Everything on this page is computed from those two facts alone, which is why you will find his zodiac signs and nakshatra here but no lagna, no houses, no manglik verdict and no dated dasha periods.
Two different questions, and they have two different answers — which is where most of the confusion online comes from. His Sun sign in Vedic astrology is Scorpio, settled by the date alone. Western astrology, which uses the tropical zodiac rather than the sidereal one Indian astrology uses, puts the same birthday in Sagittarius; the two systems are about 24 degrees apart, so a difference of one sign is normal and neither is a mistake.
His rashi — the Moon sign, and what "zodiac sign" usually means in Indian usage — cannot be given as a single answer. His Moon crosses from Aries into Taurus at roughly 3:09pm on his birth date, and no birth time exists to say which side he was born on. Aries would make it a neutral Moon; Taurus would make it an exalted one.
Either Bharani or Krittika, and the honest answer is that nobody can narrow it further. The Moon crosses from Bharani into Krittika at about 9:30 in the morning on 8 December 1935 — so a birth earlier that day gives Bharani, ruled by Venus, and a birth later that day gives Krittika, ruled by the Sun.
That single boundary is also what sets which planet's dasha his life started on, which is why this page publishes the dasha order and refuses to publish dasha dates. Lesson 06 above walks through exactly why.
More than you might expect. Eight of the nine grahas hold their sign across the entire birth date, so the birth chart above is real computation, not a guess: Mars exalted in Capricorn, Venus in its own sign Libra, Saturn in its own sign Aquarius, the Sun with Mercury and Jupiter bunched in Scorpio with both of those combust, Rahu in Sagittarius and Ketu in Gemini. Not one planet in the chart is debilitated.
What a missing birth time costs you is the house layer — the lagna, the twelve houses, any manglik verdict, and every dasha date. That is a real loss and this page says so rather than filling the gap with an assumed time.
Real searches from Google India around his horoscope — the pages they lead to are on their way.
One disambiguation, because the searches run together: this page is about the actor Dharmendra Deol (1935–2025). It is not about Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, or about Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bageshwar Dham — different people, different birth data, no connection to anything above.
His chart had one exalted planet and no weak ones. Yours is a different hand entirely. See what you were actually dealt.

CTA band: the shared AxtroShastra cinema-hall photograph used identically across every page in this category. No freely-licensed photograph of Dharmendra from the 1960s or 1970s exists that clears our licence gates, so the cards covering those years carry honestly-labelled file photos from later in his life rather than an unlicensed still or an empty panel.
Method. Every placement on this page is computed with the Swiss Ephemeris using the Lahiri ayanamsa — the same engine behind every AxtroShastra report — from his birth date and Punjab birthplace. Because no birth time for him was ever published, we ran the chart at every quarter-hour across the whole of 8 December 1935 and publish only what held: eight of the nine grahas keep the same sign all day, so those are stated plainly, while the Moon's sign and nakshatra both change during the day and are shown as the two possibilities they are. We deliberately publish no house-based claim — no lagna, no houses, no manglik verdict — and no dated dasha periods, because dasha dates depend on the Moon's exact position within its nakshatra and therefore slide by years across an unknown birth time. The dasha lord order is real and is given; the calendar is not, and we do not invent one. His exact birth village is recorded variously as Nasrali in Ludhiana district with schooling in Phagwara; since this page makes no house-based claims, the difference between the two changes nothing computed here.
About this page. Dharmendra died on 24 November 2025 at the age of 89. This page is written as a memorial. Every fact about his life stated here is public record — his films, his awards, his term in the Lok Sabha, and his death. Nothing on this page comments on his private or family life, and no astrological reading anywhere on it is offered as an explanation, a cause or a prediction of anything that happened to him, least of all of his death. Astrological interpretation is for education and interest only. Our respects to his family.
